This project was for a large oil & gas company. The goal was to design a typical enterprise system with various site installations of Ignition and a centrally-managed enterprise Ignition SCADA server to retrieve data from all of these local instances via OPC-UA. Complications typically arose from the fact that the project was decided to be designed with Ignition Perspective, an amazing new UI system written in HTML5/Javascript as the frontend, but still including the typical Java backend, which was in a very immature state. So, with persistent bugs and performance issues (memory leaks, browser failures, CPU issues, screen bugs, etc.), the project suffered a bit. So, I had to dual-wield the arduous tasks of both designing and implementing as much of the solution as I could while helping to ensure that the technical support from Ignition could assist with what we were uncovering. Ultimately, it was moderately successful, and the project succeeded in its originally outlined goals. As additional items were added, the project is ongoing as of October 19, 2020.
